LOS ANGELES, California -
This past April during the annual Golden God Awards in Los Angeles, the stars were aligned for shock-rocker Marilyn Manson when he met Kyla Kenedy, an actress from the hit TV show The Walking Dead. Manson ran into Kyla and her parents right before Manson was set to be interviewed by geriatric rocker Dee Snider.
Manson said that what started as a purported “babysitting” during the awards show has, over the last couple months, blossomed into a deep friendship. He brushed off Dee Snider’s Michael Jackson-related jokes during his interview at the show, although it is a widely known fact that Manson has always had an interest in younger women. At age 38, he had a relationship with then 19 year-old Evan Rachel Wood, and he was completely heartbroken when she dumped him after a four-year fling. Now 45, he is 34 years older than Kyla, who is 11.
Young Kyla’s heavy-metal-loving parents say they approve of their daughter’s new friend, saying that Kyla and Manson just “clicked” as kindred spirits. They often have him over to play board games like Candyland and Bananagrams, or let him stop by to tuck Kyla into bed and read her bedtime stories. While Manson has been busy filming episodes of Sons of Anarchy, he and Kyla have been keeping in touch via Facebook or Skype, many nights until well past Kyla’s 9PM bedtime.
When Kyla’s parents were asked how they felt about Manson’s history of sexual deviancy, taking 14 year-old runaways on the road, and tying-up young fans backstage at his shows, they scoffed at the notion, saying that’s not the man they’ve welcomed into their lives.
“He’s definitely settled down in his middle age, I think. He comes over and helps me mow the lawn. He drinks coffee with us and pets our cats. He’s a good guy.” says Kyla’s father. “He’s always telling her [Kyla] to stay off drugs if she’s ever offered any when she’s working. He’s really a big softy.”
Since the Golden Gods, Kyla has become integral to Manson’s newfound sobriety, as he has reportedly given up all his drug use and drinking, even forbidding himself from sipping on his own brand of absinthe he unoriginally calls Mansithe. Manson, whose mother recently passed away, said that “She [Kayla] has really been there for me. She’s the only one I can talk to and say how I’m really feeling since mom died. She’s like the girl I’ve always needed in my life.”
“I think that Manson is a great friend to Kyla, and we are glad that they met. He’s been in the business since like the 80s or something, so he can really mentor her in Hollywood.” says Kyla’s mom, “But hey, stranger things have happened – Someday when she’s older maybe she’ll marry the guy. I don’t know. She’s got her whole life ahead of her. God, I just hope the wedding won’t be filled with goths.”
